Putnam Funeral Home is proud to have the only crematory located in Llano County. Once your loved one enters our loving care, everything is completed at our facility. With our private crematory, we rely only on our cremation identification system. Identification starts at the time of death and finishes at the completion of the cremation. Your loved one is held in a dignified, refrigerated area of our funeral home until the appropriate time of cremation.
While others say they can save your family money by not having their own crematory, they are cutting cost at your expense. The commercial crematory they use must rely on many funeral homes identification process. Your loved one is placed in a paneled cargo van or a pick-up with a camper shell on top and transported miles through out Central Texas until enough stops are made in order to cut cost.
By saying they cut cost, they often hide charges that you do not know about until you are in their office. They charge for embalming because refrigeration is not availible at their facility. If you choose refrigeration, you are charged per day and transportation to the refrigeration facility. Often times, they just turn the air conditioner down in a certain area of the funeral home and then charge you per day for refrigeration. These charges range from $75.00 - $150.00 per day. At Putnam Funeral Home refrigeration is priced in our direct cremation price leaving no guessing when it comes to the final bill.
Why refrigeration is important? It is simple because it is Texas State Law and it reads.
No human body may be held in any place or be in transit more than 24 hours after death and pending final disposition unless either maintained at a temperature within the range of 34 degrees - 40 degrees Fahrenheit, or is embalmed by a licensed embalmer in a manner approved by the Texas Funeral Service Commission, or by an embalmer licensed to practice in the state where death occurred or is encased in a container which insures against seepage of fluid and the escape of offensive odors.

Simply turning down the air conditioner does not meet these standards and charging you a per day fee for doing this is not only illegal, it is unethical.
Throughout the history of Putnam Funeral Home, we have maintained that we are here to help all families in all financial situations. We have never turned down or shown people a lack of service due to finances. We are here to help and we appreciate the trust that many Llano County families have placed in us.
